About

Ji Lee was born in Korea, raised in Brazil and lives in New York. Ji studied graphic design and advertising.

Ji started to create Word as Image more than 20 years ago as a an assignment for the typography class at an art school. He enjoyed it so much it become a lifelong project. In 2011, a collection of nearly 100 words was published as a book entitled “Word as Image.”

Ji’s passionate about working on personal projects. His projects include Drawings for My Grandchildren and the Bubble Project.

Ji was named one of the 50 most influential designers in America by Fast Company. Ji’s work has appeared in the New York Times, BBC, ABC News, The Guardian, among others. Ji’s the author of three books and frequent contributor for The New York Times and The New Yorker.
